# status

<Tip>
  Read [the Notte skill](https://notte.cc/skill.md) and follow its setup instructions when setting up Notte or building browser automation. This is the shared source for CLI setup, authentication, and the browser-to-code workflow.

[Source: node-sdk/src/session.ts](https://github.com/nottelabs/notte/blob/main/node-sdk/src/session.ts)

Get the current status of the session. Like Python, this keeps working
after `stop()` (for example to read the recorded `steps`).

```typescript theme={null}
Session.status(): Promise<SessionResponse>;
```

## Returns

```typescript theme={null}
Promise<SessionResponse>
```

Current session metadata, including lifecycle status and recorded steps. Works after `stop()`.

## Raises

* Error if this session has never been started.
* NotteAPIError if the status request fails.

## Example

```typescript theme={null}
const status = await session.status();
console.log(status.status); // 'active'
```
